Richard J. Gathercole

Richard Gathercole brings his teaching skills as well as his management and patent drafting experience to Davies & Gathercole, Inc. Richard comes to us from Quality Patent Printing, Inc. in Arlington, where he managed and helped train draftsman from diverse disciplines, such as Illustration, fine art, architectural and mechanical backgrounds, into fully trained Patent Draftsmen. Among Richard's many qualities, he possesses motivational skills, and having attended Teacher's Training College at, what is now Sunderland University, and completing a foundation course at The Guildford School of Art, Richard has a proven ability to organize and motivate people. These particular skills were fully utilized during his tenure at QPP, where he was influential in developing a highly motivated and disciplined team of drafters and artists. 

Richard started his regular drafting career, teaching high-school students and preparing them to take The General Certificate of Education (Mechanical Drafting) in the British school system. After emigrating from the UK, Richard worked for CACI Business Consultants, as a Lead Artist, and The Computer Science Corporation, in their Graphics Department. 

Richard began his career in Patent Drafting, working exclusively on the board and collaborating with Tony Davies under the partnership name of Davies & Gathercole. He was invited onto the staff at Quality Patent Printing to jointly manage their newly created drafting department in 1985. During his time at QPP, he helped take the drafting department at QPP into the computer age as joint manager of the department. At QPP he was one of two main contacts, who liaised with IP Attorneys, Patent agents and their respective legal staff. His experience extends to all aspects of running a successful drafting company on a day-to-day basis. Today, he has over 35 years of experience in the patent drafting business. 

Richard and his wife Mary live in University Park, MD and have two children; Martin and Laura.
